about
Produced by Murray Foster (Great Big Sea, Moxy Fruvous), this up-tempo Celtic folk/rock song is a great toe-tapper. Written by Stephen Lamb (lead vocals/guitar), and featuring Michael O'Grady (The Mahones) on tin whistle and accordion, Spencer Murray (Come From Away) on flute, Murray Foster (Great Big Sea, Moxy Fruvous) on bass, Alanna Jenish on fiddle, Kyle Sullivan on drums, and OMFG members Bexy Ashworth, Scot Allan and Matti Palonen, it's a party song with a sing-a-long chorus line of "HELL NO!".
A fellow that drinks a bit too much and gets shot down in a bar isn't breaking new ground, but one who reflects on the error of his ways and learns a lesson? A moral tale for fellows out there to "leave the girl alone and save your soul".
This track will be included on our full length album June 2024
lyrics
Lyrics:
I went into the tavern for a swallow
Just another Thursday, nothing grand
My day at work had left me feeling bitter
Nothing more than drinking had I planned
Twas then I saw a face so unfamiliar
A softness to your check and lips so kind
I strolled up to engage in conversation
But only got a piece of your mind
You said "Hell no!" to me, so woe is me
Another girl like you I'll never find
I'll tell my whiskey that there's always tomorrow
And till then I'll have you on my mind
I raised my hands to signal my surrender
Knowing then that you would not be mine
Perhaps my swagger seemed a bit too forward
I motioned to the barman, one more time
But then I noticed more of your sweet features
Your hair an Irish red and eyes of blue
I threw back two more shots of foolish courage
And made my way back over next to you
You said "Hell no!" to me, so woe is me
Another girl like you I'll never find
I'll tell my whiskey that there's always tomorrow
And till then I'll have you on my mind
Four more drinks passed by
She left the bar, I shed a tear in sorrow
Reflecting on the fool I was this day
I should have just accepted my undoing
Drunk and dumb, I should have walked away
I guess I thought I was a knight in armor
A hero from a storybook of old
Gentlemen, her words should be your warning
Leave the girl alone and save your soul
You said "Hell no!" to me, so woe is me
Another girl like you I'll never find
I'll tell my whiskey that there's always tomorrow
And till then I'll have you on my mind
You said "Hell no!" to me, I can't believe
I've made myself a fool another time
I'll blame my whiskey for my headache tomorrow
But till then I'll have you on my mind
Yes, till then I'll have you on my mind

Imagine the smell of the sea, cold
pints of beer, old shipwrecks, stories of love and loss, and boisterous friends sharing a laugh and a song. Now mix it with an instrumentation that takes you on a journey east, and a feeling of being welcomed into your neighbour’s home for a kitchen party, THAT is the essence of Old Man Flanagan’s Ghost....more
